"Success doesn't come to you .... you go to it !"  - Marva Collins, Educator

Our Mission

To further bridge the *Digital Divide by training adult beginner and intermediate computer users how to effectively use computer equipment and application software's.

*The digital divide is a social/political issue referring to the socio-economic gap between communities that have access to computers and the Internet and those who do not. The term also refers to gaps that exist between groups regarding their ability to use ICTs (Information and Communications Technologies) effectively, due to differing levels of literacy and technical skills, as well as the gap between those groups that have access to quality, useful digital content and those that do not. The term became popular among concerned parties, such as scholars, policy makers, and advocacy groups, in the late 1990s.

Our Vision

To provide adults with affordable quality Computer Technology Training that will improve their educational and economic situations.

History

CTS was founded in July 1996 by a collaboration of Telecommunication Specialist, Digital Computer Electronic Specialist along with Audio and Video Electronic Technicians. Their goals from 1996 to 1999 were to bridge the Digital Divide by providing poverty stricken communities with training in home computer maintenance, proper application software usage,  and personal computer building.

Since October 1999 the founders and staff of CTS researched that the Digital Divide was now narrowing in that more people were able to afford inexpensive computers and lower cost Internet services. The bigger problem now was that computers were becoming readily available but many people had little or no knowledge on how to effectively use them.

From 1999 to the present Community Technical Service introduced it's Adult Computer Technology Courses to accommodate beginner and intermediate computer users from ages 21 to Senior Citizens. CTS also developed an Advanced Computer Literacy workshop to lead our Computer Literacy graduates above the computing basics. Over the past 4 years we have introduce a Desktop Publishing course to provide all participants a way to earn extra income as they learned.

CTS has successfully trained hundreds of people in our poplar technology courses. We are definitely "The Computer Training Specialist" of the 21st century. Our courses are more affordable than colleges, computer super stores, much more complete and detailed than free computer classes.
